<off> begins by examining the presence of a certain ‘force’ exerted upon the art world and the lives of individuals at the cusp of the post-pandemic era. The exhibition is realized in the form of an exhibition space devoid of any artworks, an outdoor photoshoot with the participating artists’ sculptures and the PACK cube, as well as a short story written by Kim Beomjong.

Placed within the PACK cube, Ppuri, Yoo Sinae, Rhee Donghoon and Cho Leesop’s works are taken out of the gallery and brought out to four different outdoor locations—from Mt. Inwang overlooking Seoul to Ulsan Port, a base facility for cargo distribution. Pushed out of the safe confines of an exhibition space, the works are inevitably placed within a disparate context. This act aims to shed light upon the current precarious state of the art world.

Another key aspect of this exhibition is Kim Beomjong’s short story. Written from the perspective of a narrator who leads a mobile lifestyle as a result of platform labor and real estate charter fraud, Kim raises pertinent questions about modern-day society. As the narrator shares snippets of his day to day, the readers are confronted with a fragmented landscape and troubling internal dialogue that is maneuvered by an imperceptible force.

<off> aims to re-configure the relationship between exhibition space - artist - artwork - audience, pointing to the ways in which art and society are being further splintered and restructured around big-tech platform corporations. Visitors will encounter an empty exhibition space and will be able to receive the photo posters and short story once the exhibition ends.
